CD-R
A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a variation of the
Compact Disc invented by
Philips and
Sony. CD-R is a
Write Once, Read Many optical medium (though the whole disk does not have to be entirely written in the same session) and retains a high level of compatibility with standard CD readers (unlike
CD-RW which can be rewritten but has much lower compatibility and the discs are considerably more expensive). Some people jokingly refer to these media as CD-PROM since they are the optical analogy to
Programmable read-only memory.

Un disque compact enregistrable (ou CD-R pour Compact Disc Recordable) est un
disque compact qui peut être enregistré une et une seule fois. Il s'agit d'une technologie intermédiaire entre le
cédérom non enregistrable et le
disque compact réinscriptible (
CD-RW). Le CD-R apparaît pour la première fois en
1988, puis se généralise à la fin des années
1990 pour un prix encore très élevé. Son prix ayant fortement baissé, il est aujourd'hui accessible au grand public.

CD, die mit einem handelsüblichen
Brenner beschrieben werden kann. Daten, Fotos, kurze Videos oder Musik können darauf gespeichert und mit einem CD-Laufwerk über einen PC wiedergegeben werden.

CD-R
CD-R è la sigla che contraddistingue i
compact disc masterizzabili (dall'inglese Compact Disc-Recordable). I CD-R appartengono alla famiglia di supporti di tipo
WORM (Write Once Read Many), cioè di quelli che possono essere scritti (masterizzati) una sola volta in maniera permanente ed essere letti molte volte.Possono avere capacità variabile da 650
MB a 700 MB (il corrispondente di circa 80 minuti di musica) ma possono contenere un po' più di spazio attivando il comando
over-burn in un programma di
masterizzazione. Esistono anche CD-R di capacità da 800 e 900 MB, ma sono poco diffusi. Un'altra proprietà caratteristica dei CD-R è la velocità di scrittura, che può variare da 1x a 52x.
