CAPPADOCIAN GREEK

Cappadocian, also known as Cappadocian Greek or Asia Minor Greek, is a dialect of the Greek language, formerly spoken in Cappadocia (Central Turkey). After the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in the 1920s, Cappadocian speakers were forced to emigrate to Greece, where they were resettled in various locations, especially in Central and Northern Greece. The Cappadocians rapidly shifted to Standard Modern Greek and their language was thought to be extinct since the 1960s. In June 2005, Mark Janse (Roosevelt Academy, Middelburg) and Dimitris Papazachariou (University of Patras) discovered Cappadocians in Central and Northern Greece who could still speak their native language fluently. Amongst them are middle-aged, third-generation speakers who take a very positive attitude towards the language as opposed to their parents and grandparents. The latter are much less inclined to speak Cappadocian and more often than not switch to Standard Modern Greek. A survey of Cappadocian speakers and language use is currently in preparation.

Si aux époques hellénistique, romaine et byzantine le cappadocien était une langue iranienne donc indo-européenne parlée dans l'ancienne Cappadoce, à l'époque moderne en revanche, le cappadocien (SIL: CPG; ISO 639-2: ine ; en grec : ) ou grec cappadocien était une langue mixte gréco-turque, parlée à partir du en Turquie centrale. En fait, il s'agissait de grec médiéval en voie de turcisation. Après l’échange de populations entre la Grèce et la Turquie dans les années 1920, les locuteurs cappadociens, orthodoxes, furent contraints d’émigrer en Grèce, où ils furent installés dans diverses régions, notamment en Grèce centrale et septentrionale. Les grecs Cappadociens passèrent très vite au grec moderne standard et on estimait que leur langue était éteinte depuis les années 1960.

Kappadokisch (SIL: CPG; ISO 639-2: ine; ISO 639-3: cpg) ist ein griechischer Dialekt mit starken türkischen Einflüssen, vor allem im Wortschatz, zum Teil auch im Satzbau ([1]), der in der Gegend von Kappadokien in Kleinasien gesprochen wurde. Während der Zwangsumsiedlung in den 1920er Jahren mussten alle Sprecher der kappadokischen Sprache nach Griechenland auswandern, wo sie schnell zum Standardgriechisch wechselten. Seit den 1960er Jahren galt die Sprache als ausgestorben, jedoch wurden 2005 in Griechenland Muttersprachler aufgefunden. Weitere Untersuchungen diesbezüglich werden an der Universität Patras und der Aristoteles-Universität Thessaloniki vorgenommen.
