CADDO

The Caddo are a nation, or group of tribes, of Southeastern Native Americans who, in the 16th century, inhabited much of what is now East Texas, western Louisiana and portions of southern Arkansas and Oklahoma. The Caddo historically consisted of three confederacies of at least twenty five different tribes and spoke a variety of dialects of the Caddoan languages. Today the Caddo are a cohesive tribe with their capital at Binger, Oklahoma, and the Caddoan dialects have converged into a single language. The current Chairperson of the Caddo is LaRue Parker.

Les Caddos sont une nation, ou groupe de tribus, d'Amérindiens qui, au , occupaient une grande partie de ce qui est devenu l'est du Texas, l'ouest de la Louisiane et des parties du sud de l'Arkansas et de l'Oklahoma. Die Caddo waren eine Konföderation indianischer nordamerikanischer Völker im Gebiet des Red River in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana und Oklahoma. Ende des 17. bis Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts forderten mehrere Epidemien einen hohen Blutzoll.1874 schlossen sich die die verbleibenden Caddo zu einem einheitlichen Stamm, dem Unified Caddo Indian Tribe zusammen. Die Mehrzahl lebt heute in Oklahoma.

Kaddo (ang. Caddo) - konfederacja północnoamerykańskich plemion indiańskich, mówiących językami z rodziny językowej kaddo, w skład której wchodzą też plemiona Wichita, Kichai, Paunisi i Arikara. Indianie Kaddo zamieszkiwali pierwotnie tereny wzdłuż rzeki Red, na terenach dzisiejszej Luizjany i Arkansas. Początkowo byli przyjaźnie nastawieni do Francuzów. Kiedy jednak wzmógł się napór białych osadników (XVIII w.), a Luizjana przeszła w 1803 roku na własność Stanów Zjednoczonych, plemię zostało zepchnięte na południe. W 1835 roku zostali zmuszeni do wyrzeczenia się swych rodzimych terenów i przewędrowali do Teksasu, gdzie połączyli się z innymi grupami konfederacji. W 1859 roku zostali zmuszeni do dalszej wędrówki. Osiedli na Terytorium Indiańskim w dzisiejszym stanie Oklahoma, w rezerwacie nad rzeką Washita.
