In Greek mythology, the name Butes referred to four different people.Aphrodite's lover and a Sicilian king. He was the father of Eryx by Aphrodite.Boreas' son. He offended Dionysus and was made insane.Son of Pandion I and Zeuxippe. He was a priest of Poseidon and Athena and was worshipped as a hero by the Athenians.An Argonaut, son of Teleon.

[Greek heroic] The son of Pandion and Zeuxippe, priest of Athena and Poseidon. After his death he was venerated as a hero by the Athenians. King of Sicily and beloved of Aphrodite, who gave birth to his son Eryx. Son of Boreas. He stole one of the bacchae of Dionysus and was struck with madness by the god.
