Burgenland

Burgenland (Croatian Gradišće, Slovenian Gradiščansko, Hungarian Várvidék, Őrvidék or Felsőőrvidék) is the easternmost and least populous state or Land of Austria. It consists of two Statutarstädte (towns with a charter) and seven districts with in total 171 municipalities. It is 166 km long from north to south but much narrower from west to east (only 5 km wide at Sieggraben).

L'État fédéré du Burgenland (en croate Gradišce) est le Bundesland le plus à l'est de l'Autriche. Il est le plus jeune (il ne fait partie de l'Autriche que depuis 1921) et aussi le plus plat de l'Autriche.

Das Burgenland (burgenlandkroatisch: Gradišce [], ungarisch: Felsoorvidék, Orvidék, oder Lajtabánság) ist das östlichste und gemessen an der Einwohnerzahl kleinste Bundesland Österreichs. Das Gebiet gehörte einst zum Königreich Ungarn, das im Vertrag von Trianon 1920 verpflichtet wurde, das damalige „Deutsch-Westungarn“ an Österreich abzutreten. 1921 wurde diese Verpflichtung großteils erfüllt und von der neuen Republik Österreich der Name Burgenland neu eingeführt.

Il Burgenland (in ungherese Orvidék, in croato Gradišce ) è il Land austriaco più orientale, più pianeggiante e più recente (è parte dell'Austria dal 1921).Confina a est con l'Ungheria (contee di Gyor-Moson-Sopron e di Vas), a ovest con la Bassa Austria e la Stiria. A sud confina per pochi chilometri con la Slovenia (regione Oltremura/Prekmurje) e a nord per pochi chilometri con la Slovacchia (regione di Bratislava).
