Guardian Dogs Overview
Bullmastiffs are fearless and confident, yet docile. They are reliable, intelligent, and have a natural instinct to guard their families.
Early obedience training is essential for these powerful, active, and stubborn dogs. Games like tug-of-war and wrestling are not recommended. If socialized, bullmastiffs accept strangers and are affectionate and patient with children and other animals in their family. They will not, however, tolerate trespassers. Some are heavy droolers.
Appearance
The coat is short and dense. Coat color is red, fawn, or brindle. The muzzle is black, fading toward the eyes. The ears are darker than the body.
Grooming & Exercise Needs
Bullmastiffs need to be brushed weekly. They need several brisk walks and a run in a secured area daily.
Origins
The bullmastiff--40 percent bulldog, 60 percent mastiff--was developed in England in the 19th century to pin down, but not maul, poachers on large estates. Its original dark brindle color (lighter today) was perfect nighttime camouflage.

Bullmastiffs are not recommended for inexperienced dog owners.
