Bronx

The Bronx is New York City's northernmost borough, coterminous with Bronx County. The Bronx is located Northeast of Manhattan. It is the only one of the city's five boroughs situated primarily on the United States mainland rather than on an island. As of 2005, the United States Census Bureau estimated that the borough's population was 1,357,589. If all five boroughs were independent cities, the Bronx would rank as the ninth most populous city in the United States. Recently, its population, which had been in decline since the 1960 census, has increased. The borough had its peak population in 1950. [1]  The Bronx is the fourth most populous of New York City's five boroughs, and Bronx County is the 5th most populous county in the New York Metropolitan Area.

Le Bronx est l'une des cinq circonscriptions (borough) de la ville de New York aux États-Unis (avec Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens et Staten Island). Il coïncide avec le comté de Bronx (Bronx County), découpage administratif de l’État de New York. En 2000, sa population était de 1 332 650 habitants. Son nom provient de Jonas Bronck, un émigrant suédois qui fut le premier à coloniser cette zone. Le territoire était autrefois désigné sous le nom de Rananchqua par les Amérindiens Siwanoy - un clan des Lenapes -, puis les colons le nommèrent Broncksland ou Bronck’s farm, ce qui donna finalement The Bronx. Le nom du borough est toujours accompagné de l'article défini, tandis que le nom du comté est seulement Bronx.

Die Bronx [] ist seit dem 10. Januar 1874 der nördlichste der fünf Stadtbezirke (borough) von New York City und deckt sich mit Bronx County. Vorher war es eine eigenständige Stadt. Sie wurde nach Jonas Bronck, einem Auswanderer aus Schweden und 1639 erstem Siedler in diesem Gebiet, benannt. Die Bronx ist der einzige Stadtteil New Yorks, der auf dem Festland liegt.

Bronx nazywany jest także Boogie Down.Bronx zamieszkuje głównie ludność pochodzenia latynoskiego (48,38%) i Afroamerykanie (35,64%). W 2001 roku Bronx liczył ok. 1 330 000 mieszkańców.Nazwa dzielnicy pochodzi od nazwiska szwedzkiego imigranta Jonasa Broncka, który pierwszy osiedlił się na tym terenie.

Il Bronx è situato a nord di Manhattan ed è uno dei cinque borough in cui è divisa la città di New York ed il suo territorio corrisponde con quello dell'omonima contea. Ha una popolazione di circa 1.300.000 abitanti.Il nome deriva da quello dello svedese Jonas Bronck che fu tra i primi a insediarsi nell'area nel 1639. Tra gli altri europei che per primi si stabilirono nella zona c'erano olandesi, francesi, inglesi e svedesi. In orgine il Bronx faceva parte della contea di Westchester County. Divenne un borough e non un'isola quando s'unì alla città di New York City nel 1898. Il Bronx ha continuato ad attirare immigranti e attualmente è la dimora di diverse minoranze etniche. Tra gli edifici famosi di questo borough, la chiesa di St. Jerome (sulla 138a strada) e lo Yankee Stadium, sito sulla riva destra del fiume Harlem dal lato del Bronx. È famosa, purtroppo, per essere la zona più malfamata di tutta New York.
