The 14 British Overseas Territories are under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom, though they do not form part of it. They are remnants of the British Empire that have not acquired independence or have voted to remain British territories. The name "British Overseas Territory" was introduced by the British Overseas Territories Act 2002, and replaced the name British Dependent Territory, which was introduced by the British Nationality Act 1981. Before 1981, the territories were known as Crown colonies.

Un territoire britannique d'outre-mer (en anglais, United Kingdom Overseas Territory, anciennement appelé dependent territory et plus tôt encore une colonie de la Couronne crown colony) est un territoire qui sous la souveraineté et le contrôle formel du Royaume-Uni mais qui n'est pas une partie du Royaume proprement dit (Grande-Bretagne et Irlande du Nord). Le terme de Colonie de la Couronne est toujours utilisé pour les îles Malouines, le Territoire britannique de l'Antarctique et Gibraltar.

Z rozległego niegdyś brytyjskiego imperium kolonialnego pozostało dzisiaj zaledwie kilkanaście niewielkich terytoriów, które określa się wspólnym mianem terytoriów zamorskich Wielkiej Brytanii (overseas territories). Dawniej używano terminów brytyjskie terytoria zależne (dependent territories) lub kolonie korony brytyjskiej (crown colonies). Terytoria te pozostają pod kontrolą i stałą zależnością Wielkiej Brytanii, ale nie stanowią integralnej części Zjednoczonego Królestwa.
