Borgund, Møre og Romsdal

Borgund is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway.It was created in 1837 as Borgund formannskapsdistrikt. According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 3,754. In 1849 the district Skodje was separated from Borgund to become a municipality of its own, and on 1 January 1908 the same thing happened to Giske. After the last split Borgund had a population of 6,734. Parts of Skodje and Hareid with 14 and 68 inhabitants respectively were moved to Borgund in 1916 and 1958.
