Book of Judges

Book of Judges (Hebrew: Sefer Shoftim ספר שופטים) is a book of the Bible originally written in Hebrew. It appears in the Tanakh and in the Christian Old Testament. Its title refers to its contents; it contains the history of Biblical judges (not to be confused with modern judges), who helped rule and guide the ancient Israelites, and of their times.

Le Livre des Juges (Sefer Shoftim) est l'un des livres de la Bible. Il raconte la période de l'histoire des Hébreux entre la conquête du Pays de Canaan (rapportée dans le livre de Josué) et l'apparition de la royauté. À cette époque (vers -1150--1130), le pouvoir est exercé par les Juges. C'est sous la pression d'un danger précis et sur un mode plutôt défensif que les tribus d'Israël mettent à leur tête un chef: c'est l'époque des Juges (shofet).

Księga Sędziów [Sdz] (hebr. שֹּׁפְטִים, Szofetim) to jedna z ksiąg biblijnych wchodząca w skład Starego Testamentu. Opisuje ona czasy pomiędzy zajęciem ziemi Kanaan przez Hebrajczyków pod wodzą Jozuego (zobacz Księga Jozuego), a czasami królów izraelskich (XII wiek p.n.e.).W przeciwieństwie do poprzednich ksiąg jest ona luźnym zbiorem opowiadań, nie skoncentrowanej na jednej postaci. Bohaterami Księgi są sędziowie, sprawujący władzę i sądy nad ludem izraelskim. Tradycja wylicza 6 sędziów większych oraz 6 mniejszych. Sędziowie więksi to:Otniel (3,7-11)Ehud (3,12-30)Barak (4,4-5,31)Gedeon (6,11-8,32)Jefte (10,6-12,7)Samson (13,1-16,31) Sędziowie mniejsi to Tola i Jair, Ibsan, Elon i Jabdon oraz Szamgar.
