Book of Joshua

The Book of Joshua (Hebrew: Sefer Y'hoshua ספר יהושע) is the sixth book in both the Hebrew Tanakh and the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. This book stands as the first in the Former (or First) Prophets covering the history of Israel from the possession of the Promised Land to the Babylonian Captivity.

Le livre de Josué est le premier livre des Prophètes pour la tradition juive et le sixième livre de l'Ancien Testament chrétien. Il fait suite au Pentateuque, qui se terminait à la mort de Moïse aux portes du pays de Canaan, et relate la conquête du pays promis sous la direction de Josué. Ce livre porte son nom parce qu'il en est le personnage principal, pas parce qu'il en est l'auteur.

Das Buch Josua (hebr. יְהוֹשֻׁעַ, Jehoschua) ist Bestandteil des Alten Testaments der christlichen Bibel beziehungsweise des jüdischen Tanach. Seit dem Mittelalter wird es in 24 Kapitel unterteilt. Josua wird zum Teil auch Joschua geschrieben. Im Griechischen heißt das Buch Buch des Jesus, des Sohnes des Nave; (siehe Josua für Details hierzu).

Księga Jozuego [Joz] jest szóstą księgą Starego Testamentu. Zawiera kontynuację wydarzeń opisanych w poprzedniej księdze - Księdze Powtórzonego Prawa. Jest niezależna od Pięcioksięgu. Kanon Żydowski zalicza ją do "Proroków Starszych". Na wyraźny rozdział między Prawem (Tora), a księgami następnymi wskazuje zarówno centralna postać tej księgi, jak i gatunek literacki. Duży wpływ na kompozycje księgi miała wpływ tradycja deuteronomiczna. Księga ta zachęca wiernych do wytrwałości w wyznawianu wiary i nie mieszania się z ludnością pogańską. Ponieważ następstwem tego mógłby być Synkretyzm religijny.
