Genesis (Greek: Γένεσις, meaning "birth", "creation", "cause", "beginning", "source" or "origin") is the first book of the Torah, the Tanakh, and the Old Testament of the Bible. In Hebrew it is called בְּרֵאשִׁית, B'reshit or Bərêšîth, meaning "in the beginning", after the first word of the text in Hebrew, and in line with the other four books of the Pentateuch. As Jewish tradition considers it to have been written by Moses, it is sometimes also called The First Book of Moses.

Le Livre de la Genèse (du grec Γένεσις, « naissance », « commencement », « source », « origine », « cause ») est le premier livre de la Torah (Pentateuque), donc du Tanakh (la Bible hébraïque) et de la bible chrétienne. En hébreu, son intitulé est Bereshit (« au début de …») d'après le premier mot de la première parasha du Livre. La tradition juive considérant qu'il a été écrit par Moïse, on l'appelle parfois le Premier Livre de Moïse.

Das 1. Buch Mose, auf Hebräisch  Bereschit (in aschkenasischer Aussprache Berejschiss oder Berajschiss), auf Griechisch Genesis genannt, ist das erste Buch der jüdischen und christlichen Bibel. Es berichtet von den Geschehnissen von der Erschaffung der Welt bis zum Wirken von Jakobs Söhnen in Ägypten.

Il Libro della Genesi, comunemente citato come Genesi, è il primo libro della Torah ebraica e della Bibbia cristiana. Essendo parte del Pentateuco si ritrova nell'Antico Testamento secondo entrambe le confessioni religiose.Il termine Genesi deriva dal greco Γένεσις ("nascita", "creazione", "origine"), utilizzato nella versione greca della Septuaginta.In ebraico il primo libro viene chiamato בראשית  (Bərêšîth), che significa "all'inizio" o "in principio", dalla prima parola utilizzata nel testo masoretico.
