Book of Common Prayer
The Book of Common Prayer is the common title of a number of prayer books of the
Church of England and used throughout the
Anglican Communion. The first book, published in 1549 , in the reign of
Edward VI, was a product of the
English Reformation following the breach with
Rome. Prayer books, unlike books of prayers, contain the words of structured (or
liturgical) services of worship. The work of 1549 was the first prayer book to contain the forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English and to do so within a single volume; it included
morning prayer,
evening prayer, the
Litany, and
Holy Communion. The book included the other occasional services in full: the orders for
baptism,
confirmation,
marriage, '
prayers to be said with the sick' and a
funeral service. It set out in full the
Epistle and
Gospel readings for the Sunday Communion Service. Set
Old Testament and
New Testament readings for daily prayer were specified in tabular format as were the set
Psalms; and
canticles, mostly biblical, that were provided to be sung between the readings .

Le livre de la prière commune (Book of Common Prayer) est le livre fondamental de prière de l'
Église anglicane. Il était l'un des instruments de la réforme protestante en Angleterre. Il conserve toutefois plusieurs éléments chers à la
Haute Église et il est employé dans le rite de l'usage anglican des fidèles revenus vers Rome. Son influence sur la langue anglaise est semblable à celle de la
Bible du roi Jacques et des œuvres de
Shakespeare.

Libro della preghiera comune
Il "libro della preghiera comune" in inglese Book of Common Prayer è il testo base della
chiesa anglicana che, diversamente dalle altre confessioni cristiane, non ha storicamente ritenuto più opportuna per l'uniformità della pratica religiosa la stesura di un catechismo o di un ordinamento dottrinale sistematico ( a parte i sintetici "39 articoli"), bensì la liturgia nella sua concretezza. Nonostante infatti le tre correnti della
comunione anglicana (chiesa alta, chiesa bassa e chiesa larga) abbiano spesso vedute diverse sulla teologia e sull'etica, nessuno contesta il Book of Common Prayer e persino gli esponenti filocattolici del movimento di Oxford (trattariani) non solo lo accettavano, ma addirittura lo esaltavano.

O Livro de Oração Comum é o livro de preces da
Igreja Anglicana e também o nome de livros similares de outras igrejas que seguem o rito anglicano (como a Igreja Anglicana do
Canadá). Passou por várias revisões durante os últimos séculos e contém a ordem a ser seguida nos serviços religiosos. No
Reino Unido ele só pode ser impresso pelas chamadas imprensas privilegiadas já que, a despeito de sua antiguidade, ele está sob copyright perpétuo da Coroa britânica.
