Bologna
Bologna (
IPA , from
Latin Bononia, Bulåggna in
Emiliano dialect) is the capital city of
Emilia-Romagna in northern
Italy, in the
Pianura Padana, between the
Po River and the
Apennines, exactly between the
Reno River and the Sàvena River. Home of the one of the oldest universities in the world, "Alma Mater Studiorum", founded in 1088, Bologna is one of the most developed cities in Italy. Bologna ranks often as one of the top cities related to quality of life in Italy. This is due to its strong industrial tradition and physical position--located at the crossing of the most important highways and railways in the country--as well as its wide range of highly-developed social services (e.g. one of the best public transport systems in Europe).
