BOOTES, the Burst Observer and Optical Transient Exploring System, is a network of astronomical observatory with sites in Southern Spain and New Zealand. It makes use of two sets of wide-field astrographic cameras, 240 km apart. These two stations taking simultaneous images will allow astronomers to distinguish near-Earth objects, closer than one million feet (300 km) from more distant phenomena, thus ruling out satellite glints, head-on meteors, etc. in order to study the short duration optical transient phenomena that occur in the Universe. A third telescope, BOOTES-3 has been constructed in Blenheim, New Zealand and is being commissioned.

Boötes is a constellation in the northern sky, located between 0° and +60° declination, and 13 and 16 hours of right ascension on the celestial sphere. The name comes from the Greek Βοώτης, Boōtēs, meaning herdsman or plowman (literally, ox-driver; from boos, related to the Latin bovis, “cow”). The "ö" in the name is a diaeresis, not an umlaut, meaning that each 'o' is to be pronounced separately.

Der Bärenhüter (lateinisch Boötes [], manchmal auch als "Rinderhirte" bezeichnet) ist ein Sternbild nördlich des Himmelsäquators.

Le Bouvier est une constellation boréale. Ses étoiles principales dessinent dans le ciel un grand cerf-volant (ou un parachute).

Björnvaktaren (Bootes) är en stjärnbild som är synlig på norra halvklotet under våren och sommaren. Alla stärnor i björnvaktaren är ganska ljussvaga, utom Arcturus, som är norra stjärnhimlens ljusaste stjärna. Björnvaktaren var en av de 48 konstellationerna som listades av astonomen Klaudios Ptolemaios i hans samlingsverk Almagest.

Wolarz (łac. Boötes, dop. Boötis, skrót Boo) – jeden z wyraźnych gwiazdozbiorów nieba północnego. Przedstawia syna Jowisza i Kallisto, stworzonego podczas orki. Znajdujemy do niej odnośniki w Odysei Homera. Często określana była mianem kierującego niedźwiedziami ze wglęgu na bliskość  Wielkiej Niedźwiedzicy i Małej Niedźwiedzicy. W mitologii greckiej widziano tu także wilka Likaona, w żydowskiej - ujadającego psa.
