Binary numeral system

The binary numeral system, or base-2 number system, is a numeral system that represents numeric values using two symbols, usually 0 and 1. More specifically, the usual base-2 system is a positional notation with a radix of 2. Owing to its straightforward implementation in electronic circuitry, the binary system is used internally by virtually all modern computers.

Le système binaire est un système de numération utilisant la base 2. On nomme couramment bit (de l'anglais binary digit, soit « chiffre binaire ») les chiffres de la numération binaire. Ceux ci ne peuvent prendre que deux valeurs, notées par convention 0 et 1.

Das Dualsystem (lat. dualis = zwei enthaltend), auch Binärsystem oder Zweiersystem genannt, ist ein Zahlensystem das nur zwei verschiedene Ziffern zur Darstellung von Zahlen benutzt.Im gewöhnlich verwendeten Dezimalsystem werden die Ziffern 0 bis 9 verwendet. Im Dualsystem hingegen werden Zahlen nur mit Ziffern, welche die Werte Null oder Eins annehmen, dargestellt. Oft werden für diese Ziffern die Symbole 0 und 1 verwendet. Die Zahlen Null bis Zehn zum Beispiel sehen dann wie in der rechts stehenden Liste aus.

Dwójkowy system liczbowy (inaczej binarny) to pozycyjny system liczbowy, w którym podstawą pozycji są kolejne potęgi liczby 2. Do zapisu liczb potrzebne są więc tylko dwa znaki: 0 i 1. Powszechnie używany w informatyce. Jak w każdym pozycyjnym systemie liczbowym, liczby zapisuje się tu jako ciąg cyfr, z których każda jest mnożnikiem kolejnej potęgi liczby stanowiącej podstawę systemu.

Il sistema numerico binario è un sistema numerico posizionale in base 2, cioè che utilizza 2 simboli, tipicamente 0 e 1, invece dei 10 del sistema numerico decimale tradizionale. Di conseguenza, la cifra in posizione N (da destra) si considera moltiplicata per 2^N (anziché per 10^N come avverrebbe nella numerazione decimale).
