Bill Joy
William Nelson Joy (born November 8, 1954), commonly known as Bill Joy, is an American computer scientist. Joy co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982 along with Vinod Khosla, Scott McNealy and Andy Bechtolsheim, and served as chief scientist at the company until 2003. He is widely known for having written the essay "Why the Future Doesn't Need Us", where he expresses deep concerns over the development of modern technologies. He played an integral role in the early development of BSD UNIX while a graduate student at Berkeley, and he is the original author of the vi text editor.

Bill Joy
Bill Joy, född 8 november 1954, är en amerikansk programmerare och en av grundarna till Sun Microsystems. Han skrev stora delar av Unix-implementationen BSD, däribland TCP/IP-stacken, vi och csh. Joy är en av upphovsmännen till programmeringsspråket Java.

William N. Joy powszechnie znany jako Bill Joy (1955-) programista amerykański, jeden z twórców korporacji Sun Microsystems.
Ukończył studia zawodowe inżynierii elektrycznej na Uniwersytecie Michigan, a tytuł master uzyskał na wydziale Inżynierii Elektrycznej i Wiedzy Komputerowej Uniwersytetu Kalifornijskiego w Berkeley. W czasie bytności w pracowni CSRG na Berkeley stał się jednym z twórców odmiany Uniksa BSD. Znany jest także jako autor popularnego edytora modalnego vi.
