Began his career with FC Hajduk Split in 86, stayed in Croatia during the Serbo-Croat war in 91, and joined Karlsruhe (93-96). He was a captain of the Karlsruher SC and West Ham which tells a lot about him as a player and as a man. He has great physical abilities and is also very highly educated (he has finished a law at the University). After 96 European championships he played for West Ham for a season and then joined Everton in 97. He was member of the Croatian National Team at the Euro '96 in England and WC '98 in France.
