The term Bildung refers to the German tradition of self-cultivation, (as related to the German for: creation, image, shape), wherein philosophy and education are linked in manner that refers to a process of both personal and cultural maturation. This maturation is described as a harmonization of the individual’s mind and heart and in a unification of selfhood and identity within the broader society, as evidenced with the literary tradition of bildungsroman.

Bildung (von ahd. bildunga, "Schöpfung; Bildnis, Gestalt") bezeichnet die Formung des Menschen im Hinblick auf sein „Menschsein“.

L'éducation est le développement dirigé des facultés physiques, psychiques et intellectuelles ; les moyens et les résultats de ce développement. Spécialement, l'éducation humaine inclut ces apprentissages et des éléments culturels caractéristiques du lieu et de la période historique.

Utbildning är en beteckning på den, ofta målinriktade, process där någon genom systematisk undervisning och träning skaffar sig kunskaper, bildning och färdigheter. Med Lev Vygotskijs syn innebär all utbildning att individen fostras till förståelse av den kulturella begreppsvärlden.

Edukacja - pojęcie związane z rozwojem umysłowym i wiedzą człowieka, stosowane w następujących znaczeniach:

• proces zdobywania wiedzy, polega na zdobywaniu wiedzy w szkole lub poza nią. W Polsce edukacja podlega dwóm ministerstwom: Ministerstwu Edukacji Narodowej (MEN) i Ministerstwu Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego (MNiSW).
