A Bichon Frisé (
French, literally meaning Curly lap dog; often spelled Bichon Frise in English) is a small
breed of
dog. They are popular pets especially to girls, similar to but larger than the
Maltese. They are very intelligent and generally have happy dispositions. They are a non-shedding breed that requires regular grooming.

The bichon frise is gentle, playful, and affectionate and gets along with children and other animals.
It loves to please and so is an outstanding obedience-class student, though sometimes it has difficulty with house training. This is an ideal dog for the city or suburbs, for the young or elderly.
Appearance
The undercoat is soft and dense, the outercoat coarser and curlier. The combination of the two feels like plush or velvet and springs back when patted. Coat color is white, possibly with shades of buff, cream, or apricot on the ears.
Grooming & Exercise Needs
The bichon frise requires extensive daily brushing to avoid an unkempt, matted appearance. Professional grooming every eight to twelve weeks is recommended.
The bichon frise requires only a few leisurely walks around the block and some playtime daily.
Origins
The bichon frise originated in the Mediterranean area in the Middle Ages, but its ancestry is not known. A favorite of European royalty, it was bred to be an ideal companion.
