Biathlon is a term used to describe any sporting event made up of two disciplines. However, biathlon usually refers specifically to the winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Other popular variants include summer biathlon, which combines cross-country running with riflery, modern biathlon and biathle, which combine running with swimming.

Biathlon (latein/griechisch: Zweifach-Kampf) ist eine vornehmlich im Winter ausgetragene Sportart, die sich als Kombinationssportart aus den Disziplinen Skilanglauf und Schießen zusammensetzt. Beim Langlauf handelt es sich um eine Ausdauer- und beim Schießen um eine Präzisionssportart, die beim Biathlon vereint werden.

Le biathlon (du latin bi, « deux », et du grec athlon, « concours ») est une épreuve combinant deux disciplines. Par coutume, quand on parle du biathlon, on évoque la combinaison du ski de fond et tir à la carabine. De nos jours, la pratique du biathlon au haut-niveau est réglementée par l'Union internationale de biathlon qui organise les principales compétitions. Bien que considéré comme discipline du ski ou sport de neige, le biathlon est totalement autonome vis-à-vis de la Fédération internationale de ski, autre institution mondiale ayant autorité sur la majorité des disciplines des sports d'hiver.

Skidskytte eller på engelska biathlon är en sport som är en kombination av längdskidåkning och skytte. I skidskytte åkte man precis som inom längdskidåkningen tidigare klassisk stil, då det var den enda stil som användes. 1985 började plötsligt fristil åkas, och året därpå beslöts att tillåta fristil i skidskytte.

Biathlon, biatlon, dwubój zimowy, bieg patrolowy (łac. bi - dwu, gr. áthlon - zawody, nagroda) – zimowa dyscyplina sportu, łącząca biegi narciarskie ze strzelectwem. Polega na biegu na określonym dystansie (zwykle od 7.5 do 20 km), w czasie którego zawodnicy 2, 3 lub 4 razy zajmują stanowiska na strzelnicy, przyjmując pozycję stojącą lub leżącą, oddając za każdym razem po 5 strzałów. Rozgrywane są też różne konkurencje drużynowe.
