Beyrouth

Beirut (, ) is the capital, largest city, and chief seaport of Lebanon. It is sometimes referred to by its French name, Beyrouth. There are wide-ranging estimates of Beirut's population, from as low as 938,940 people, to 1,303,129 people, to as high as 2,012,000. The lack of an exact figure is due to the fact that no "comprehensive" population census has been taken in Lebanon since 1932.

Beirut ( Bairut) ist die Hauptstadt des Libanon. Sie liegt an der Levanteküste am östlichen Mittelmeer, ungefähr in der Mitte des Landes in Nord-Süd-Richtung.Beirut ist das wirtschaftliche und kulturelle Zentrum der Region mit vielen Verlagen und Universitäten, unter anderem der Amerikanischen Universität Beirut. Bejrut (arab. بيروت, Bayrūt, ang. Beirut, gr. Berytos) – stolica i największe miasto Libanu, leżące w środkowej części kraju. Liczy 1,5 mln mieszkańców (1990), większość pochodzenia arabskiego. Dawniej miasto było nazywane: Birutu, Berytos. Znajduje się tu wiele zabytków i dobytku historycznego kraju.

La città conta circa 1.200.000 abitanti all'interno dei confini amministrativi, ma l'area metropolitana che si estende al di fuori di essi conta oltre due milioni di abitanti.Nonostante le gravi distruzioni causate dalla guerra civile libanese (1975-1990), Beirut è tornata ad essere la principale piazza finanziaria, bancaria, assicurativa e commerciale del Vicino Oriente. Grazie alla sua storia cosmopolita, la città rappresenta inoltre un centro culturale e accademico di grande rilevanza.
