Berklee College of Music, founded in 1945, is an independent music college in
Boston, Massachusetts, with many prominent
faculty, staff,
alumni, and visiting artists. It has an enrollment of approximately 3,900 students and a 2004 faculty of approximately 430. Berklee offers a fully accredited four-year baccalaureate degree or diploma and is considered one of the top two institutions in America (along with the
University of Southern California's
Thornton School of Music) for studies of music outside the classical and jazz genres. Degree-program tuition is more than $34,752 for the fall through spring academic year (
as of 2007).

La Berklee College of Music, fondata nel 1945, è una scuola di musica indipendente, situata a
Boston nel
Massachusetts, con un corpo docente, assistenti, studenti ed artisti in visita molto importanti. Ha circa 3 800 iscritti e 430 insegnanti (cifra del 2004).La scuola fu fondata da Lawrence Berk che la chiamò Schillinger House of Music in onore del suo insegnante di musica Joseph Schillinger. Nel 1954, dopo la nascita di suo figlio Lee Berk, Lawrence cambiò il nome in Berklee School of Music. Successivamente la scuola venne riconosciuta dal U.S. Secretary of Education (ente per la certificazione delle scuole negli
Stati Uniti), e il suo nome mutò definitivamente nel 1973 in Berklee College of Music.
