Though he has struggled to regain his place in the Manchester United FC first team after injury ruled him out of the conclusion of last season, Berg remains a pivotal presence at the back for the national team. He became the first Norwegian player to win a English championship medal with Blackburn Rovers FC in 1994/95, earning himself the accolade of Norwegian Player of the Year.
