Bloody Friday is the name given to the bombings by the Provisional Irish Republican Army's (IRA) Belfast Brigade in and around Belfast, Northern Ireland on July 21, 1972, which killed nine people including two soldiers, and injured 130 civilians.The bombings were part of a concerted bombing campaign carried out by the IRA against economic, military and political targets in Northern Ireland. The group carried out a total of 1,300 bombings in 1972. Following the failure of secret talks in London between the British government and the IRA in 1972, Gerry Adams played a central role in planning the Bloody Friday bomb blitz.

Juli 1972.An diesem Tag detonierten in Belfast und Umgebung 22 Bomben, die durch die Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA, eine Gruppe der IRA) gezündet wurden. Dabei wurden neun Menschen sofort getötet und 130 verletzt. Zwei weitere Personen erlagen später ihren Verletzungen.Die IRA warnte die Sicherheitskräfte über die lokalen Medien vor dem Anschlag. Die Warnung kam 30 Minuten vor der ersten Explosion und 70 Minuten vor der letzten Explosion. Der damalige IRA-Führer Sean MacStiofain sagte später, dass die Warnung bewusst von der britischen Armee ignoriert wurden, um die IRA als Mörder in Misskredit bei der Bevölkerung zu bringen. Es gab präzise Warnungen durch die PIRA für 20 von 22 Bomben.
