Beatification (from Latin beatus, blessed) is a recognition accorded by the Catholic Church of a dead person's entrance into Heaven and capacity to intercede on behalf of individuals who pray in his or her name (intercession of saints). Beatification is the third of the four steps in the canonization process. A person who is beatified is given the title "Blessed."

Seligsprechung oder Beatifikation (lat.: beatus „glücklich, selig“, facere „machen, tun“) nennt man nach dem Kirchenrecht der römisch-katholischen Kirche die feierliche Erklärung, dass ein verstorbener Christ von Gott in die Schar der Heiligen bzw. Seligen aufgenommen worden ist. Im Unterschied zur Heiligsprechung wird durch die Seligsprechung jedoch nur eine lokale öffentliche Verehrung dieser Personen gestattet. Diese Praxis der Seligsprechung wird bei Menschen angewandt, die ein besonders vorbildhaftes Leben geführt haben.

Beatyfikacja – (łac. beatificare 'wyróżniać') akt kościelny wydawany przez Kościół katolicki, uznający osobę zmarłą za błogosławioną, zezwalający na publiczny kult, ale o charakterze lokalnym (np. w diecezji). Akt taki wydaje się po pozytywnym rozpatrzeniu procesu beatyfikacyjnego, a za przyczyną sługi Bożego, którego proces dotyczy, musi być kanonicznie uznany cud. We wczesnym średniowieczu beatyfikacji dokonywano spontanicznie, później musiała być zgoda Synodu Biskupów i Stolicy Apostolskiej. Od roku 1634 beatyfikację może zatwierdzić tylko papież.
