Battle of Queenston Heights

The Battle of Queenston Heights was a British victory during the War of 1812 which took place on October 13, 1812, near Queenston, Ontario. It was fought between New York militia forces led by Major General Stephen Van Rensselaer, and British forces led by Major General Sir Isaac Brock and Major General Sir Roger Hale Sheaffe. The battle, the largest in the war to that point, was fought as the result of an American attempt to establish a foothold on the Canadian side of the Niagara River before campaigning ended with the onset of winter. This decisive battle was the result of a poorly managed campaign, and is most historically significant for the fact that in it, the British lost their commander, General Brock, who was killed by an unknown shooter.

La bataille de Queenston Heights fut une bataille de la guerre de 1812 qui se déroula le 13 octobre 1812. Il s'agissait de l'affrontement le plus important en termes de troupes engagées depuis le début de cette guerre. L'élément déclencheur de ce conflit provenait du fait que les Américains voulaient établir une tête de pont sur la rive canadienne de la rivière Niagara avant que la période hivernale n'arrive. Les britanniques repoussèrent l'invasion américaine, bien supérieure en nombre, en ne subissant que peu de pertes, même si parmi celles-ci se trouve leur commandant, Isaac Brock, tué par un tireur d'élite.

Bitwa pod Queenston Heights – bitwa  wojny brytyjsko-amerykańskiej 1812 roku, która odbyła się 13 października 1812.Dowodzący wojskami brytyjskimi generał Isaac Brock, spodziewał się pierwszego ataku na fortyfikację Fort George położoną w okolicy  Niagara-on-the-Lake. Zamiast tego, siły amerykańskie przekroczyły granicę powyżej wodospadu Niagara. Brock pośpiesznie opuścił Fort George i udał się na czele tysięcznego oddziału na spotkanie armii agresorów. Prowadził ją generał Stephen van Renselaer. Składały się one z sześciotysięcznego oddziału milicji, słabo zorganizowanej i źle wyszkolonej.
