Battle of Halys (585 BC)

The Battle of Halys, also known as the Battle of the Eclipse, took place at the Halys River  (present-day "Kızılırmak" river in Turkey on May 28, 585 BC between the Medes and the Lydians. The final battle of a fifteen-year war between Alyattes II of Lydia and Cyaxares of the Medes, the battle ended abruptly due to a total solar eclipse; the eclipse was perceived as an omen, indicating that the gods wanted the fighting to stop.

La bataille de l'Éclipse, aussi connue sous le nom de bataille du Halys, opposa les Mèdes et les Lydiens le 28 mai 585 av. J.-C. sur les rives du fleuve Halys (de nos jours en Turquie). Cette bataille clot la guerre qui opposa durant 15 ans Alyatte de Lydie et Cyaxare, roi des Mèdes. La bataille s'arrêta en raison d'une éclipse totale de Soleil. Cette éclipse fut perçue comme un présage indiquant que les dieux exigeaient la fin du combat.

Bitwa nad rzeką Halys została stoczona 28 maja 585 p.n.e.Starcie pomiędzy Alyattesem z Lidii i królem Medów Kyaksaresem. Bitwa nie przyniosła rozstrzygnięcia. Według Herodota w trakcie walki nastąpiło zaćmienie Słońca (przepowiedziane przez Talesa z Miletu), które doprowadziło obie strony do zawarcia pokoju. Dokładne datowanie bitwy możliwe było dzięki obliczeniom astronomicznym i ustaleniu daty zaćmienia Słońca.

קרב האליס או קרב ליקוי החמה היה קרב שהתקיים ביום 28 במאי 585 לפנה"ס סמוך לנהר האליס, הוא הקיזילאירמאק בטורקיה של ימינו, בין צבא מדי לחיילי ממלכת לידיה. הקרב סיים 15 שנות לחימה בין הצדדים היריבים והסתיים בפתאומיות בעקבות ליקוי חמה שפורש על ידיהם כסימן מהאלים להפסקת הלוחמה.
