Battle of Halbe

The Battle of Halbe lasted from April 24 to May 1 1945. It was fought in the Spree Forest near the village of Halbe, south-east of Berlin, and was a part of the Battle for Berlin, known as the 'Berlin Offensive Operation' by the Red Army.Leading the surrounded German Ninth Army, Colonel General Theodor Busse tried to link up with the German Twelfth Army commanded by General Walther Wenck with the intention of heading west and surrendering to the Western Allies.
