Balisong (knife)
The Balisong, also known as a butterfly knife, fan knife and veinte y nueve (Spanish for 29), is a folding pocket knife with two handles counter-rotating around the tang such that, when closed, the blade is concealed within grooves in the handles. It is sometimes called a Batangas knife, after the Tagalog province of Batangas in the Philippines, where it is traditionally made. In the hands of a trained user, the knife blade can be brought to bear quickly using one hand. Manipulations, called "flipping" or "fanning", are performed for art or amusement. The knife is illegal in The Netherlands, Australia, The UK, New Zealand and Germany.

Balisong
Ein Balisong (auch: im Volksmund Butterflymesser, kurz: Butterfly) ist eine spezielle Art von Klappmesser. Es darf allerdings nicht mit dem Chinesischen Schmetterlingsmesser oder Chinesischen Schmetterlingsschwert verwechselt werden. Der Begriff Balisong stammt aus dem Tagalog und ist eine Zusammensetzung der beiden Wörter "balí" (brechen) und "sungay" (Horn). Auf den Philippinen ist eine weitere Bezeichnung des Messers auch "bente-nuebe" (spanisch: veintinueve neunundzwanzig), entsprechend seiner Durchschnittslänge in cm.

Le balisong (terme philippin signifiant « corne brisée ») est l'un des noms du couteau papillon inventé par un armurier philippin après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il est aussi appelé veintinueve (soit « 29 » en castillan).

Balisong - rodzaj niewielkiego noża składanego, służącego do walki, stosowanego do tradycyjnie na Filipinach.

Kształt tego narzędzia powstał z połączenią Tabak maliit (japońskiej Yawary) z nożem. Prawdopodobnie jest to jedna z najstarszych broni stosowanych w systemie walki Kali. Jego rodowód sięga VIII w n.e. Swoją nazwę wywodzi z małej miejscowości Balisung z rejonu Batangas na Filipinach. Nóż ten dla mieszkańców tej miejscowości ma znaczeni nieomal religijne. Otwarty nóż symbolizuje trzy wierzchołki trójkąta oznaczające Niebo, Ziemię i Wodę. Sama nazwa Balisong oznacza "nóż motylkowy". W wersji złożonej (z zamkniętym ostrzem) przyrząd służy do walki podobnie jak Yawara. W razie szczególnego zagrożenia, poprzez rotacyjny ruch nadgarstka można otworzyć balisong, który wtedy jest używany jako broń biała.
