Basque (native name: euskara) is the language spoken by the Basque people who inhabit the Pyrenees in North-Central Spain and the adjoining region of South-Western France.The Basques occupy a Spanish autonomous community known as the Basque Country (Euskadi), which has significant cultural and political autonomy, the Northern Basque Country in France and the autonomous community of Navarre in Spain, which together make up the Basque Country (Euskal Herria). The Standard Basque name for the language is euskara. In dialectal forms it is known as euskara, euskera, eskuara, or üskara. Although geographically surrounded by Indo-European languages, Basque is believed to be a language isolate: it is not an Indo-European language, meaning that it does not belong to Germanic, Slavic, Celtic, Romance, Baltic or any other Indo-European family., a Basque-American folk song

Le basque () est une langue parlée au Pays basque (France et Espagne). Le nombre total de locuteurs est de (statistique 2006). En Espagne, le nombre de locuteurs est de (provinces de Biscaye, Álava, Guipúzcoa et de Navarre). En France, il y a plus de locuteurs (statistique 2005), principalement dans le département des Pyrénées-Atlantiques. personnes sont unilingues bascophones. Die baskische Sprache – Eigenbezeichnung Euskara (dialektal auch: euskera, eskuara, üskara) – ist bisher nach dem überwiegenden Urteil der einschlägigen Forschung mit keiner anderen bekannten Sprache verwandt im Rahmen der traditionellen Sprachfamilien, sie ist also eine sog. isolierte Sprache. Język baskijski (nazwy własne, zależnie od dialektu: euskara, euskera, eskuara, üskara) - język Basków zamieszkujących kilka prowincji na pograniczu Hiszpanii i Francji. Posługuje się nim dzisiaj ponad milion osób (90% w Hiszpanii). Wyróżnia się 10 dialektów języka baskijskiego. Ze względu na duże różnice pomiędzy nimi powstała ustandaryzowana odmiana języka - Euskara batua, łącząca cechy największych dialektów języka baskijskiego, oparta zwłaszcza na dialekcie Gipuzkoa. Odmiana ta nauczana jest w szkołach. Literatura w tym języku powstaje od XVI wieku. Pierwszą drukowaną książkę w tym języku wydano w 1545 roku.

La lingua basca (detta anche euskara, euskera [basco], vasco [spagnolo] o basque [francese]) è una lingua non indoeuropea parlata attualmente nel nord della Spagna (nel Paese Basco spagnolo e zona al nord di Navarra) e nell'estremo sud-ovest francese (Paese Basco francese) nel dipartimento del Pirenei Atlantici. Anticamente il suo ambito linguistico arrivò a coprire anche le zone di Aquitania, La Rioja e i Pirenei Centrali.
