Bantu language

The Bantu languages (technically Narrow Bantu languages) constitute a grouping belonging to the Niger-Congo family. This grouping is deep down in the genealogical tree of the Bantoid grouping, which in turn is deep down in the Niger-Congo tree. By one estimate, there are 513 languages in the Bantu grouping, 681 languages in Bantoid, and 1,514 in Niger-Congo. Bantu languages are spoken basically east and south of the present day nation of Nigeria; i.e., in the regions commonly known as central Africa, east Africa, and southern Africa. Parts of this Bantu chunk of Africa also have languages from outside the Niger-Congo family (see map).

La famille des langues bantoues regroupe environ 400 langues parlées dans une vingtaine de pays de la moitié sud de l'Afrique. Le nombre total de locuteurs de ces langues est évalué à 100 millions. Le premier linguiste qui a utilisé le terme est l'allemand Wilhelm Heinrich Immanuel Bleek.

Die Bantusprachen bilden eine Untergruppe des Volta-Kongo-Zweigs der afrikanischen Niger-Kongo-Sprachen. Es gibt etwa 500 Bantusprachen, die von ca. 200 Mio. Menschen gesprochen werden. Sie sind im gesamten mittleren und südlichen Afrika verbreitet und dort in allen Staaten die meistgesprochenen Sprachen, wenn auch als Amtssprache in der Regel noch Englisch, Französisch oder Portugiesisch verwendet wird.

Języki bantu – rodzina języków afrykańskich, zaliczana do wielkiej rodziny nigero-kongijskiej. W rodzinie tej wyróżnia się ponad 400 języków, którymi posługuje się około 150 mln mówiących na terenie niemal całej Czarnej Afryki z wyjątkiem większości Afryki Zachodniej, Rogu Afryki oraz południowo-centralnej Namibii i zachodniego RPA. Najważniejsze języki z tej grupy to: suahili, rwanda, lingala, niandża, makua, bemba, tonga, szona, xhosa, zulu.
