Bans
A public announcement or proclamation, ‘bans’ were often ‘cried’ for an upcoming marriage in order to provide time for any objectors to come forward. Often the bans were cried 30 days in advance. For tournaments, bans were often issued telling of the time and place of the tournament. See Cry the Tournament .
