Bank of Ireland

The Bank of Ireland (Irish: Banc na hÉireann)    NYSE: IRE, officially known as the Governor and Company of the Bank of Ireland is a commercial bank operation in Ireland, which is one of the 'Big Four' in both parts of the island. Historically the premier banking organisation in Ireland, today Bank of Ireland is number two to Allied Irish Banks. The Bank occupies a unique position in Irish banking history. At the core of the modern-day group is the old Bank of Ireland, the ancient institution established by royal charter in 1783.

La Bank of Ireland, (nome ufficiale Governor and Company of the Bank of Ireland), è una delle quattro principali banche irlandesi. La sua sede è a Dublino ed opera sia nella Repubblica d'Irlanda che nell'Irlanda del Nord. La banca venne fondata dal Parlamento irlandese nel 1782, per sostenere le finanze pubbliche ed incoraggiare lo sviluppo commerciale del paese. Fino agli anni '70 aveva sede nello storico ed imponente edificio di College Green che, fino all'Atto d'Unione del 1800, aveva ospitato a Dublino il Parlamento irlandese. Oggi, la sede è in una costruzione moderna di Baggot Street, sempre a Dublino, ma a College Green rimane una filiale operativa.

Su sede se enncuentra en Dublín u opera tanto en la República de Irlanda como en Irlanda del Norte. Aunque posee participación estatal, no debe se confundido con el Banco Central de Irlanda (en:Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland)
