Balh

Balkh (Persian: بلخ), also known as Bactra, was once a major world city but was destroyed entirely by the Mongols. Today it is a small town in the province of Balkh, northern Afghanistan, about 20 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital, Mazari Sharif, and some 74 km (46 miles) south of the Amu Darya, the Oxus River of antiquity, of which a tributary formerly flowed past Balkh.

Balch (auch Balkh; - DMG: Balḫ) ist eine Stadt in der Provinz Balch im Norden von Afghanistan und ein Vorort von Masar-e Scharif, der größten Stadt Nordafghanistans, und gleichzeitig die wichtigste Wallfahrtsstätte des Landes. Balch wurde unter der Herrschaft der Mohammedsai zu Ehren des afghanischen Nationalhelden Wazir Akbar Khan in Wazirabad umbenannt. Einwohnerzahl: 7.242 (Volkszählung 1979) und 11.300 (Schätzung 2003).

Balch - miasto w północnym Afganistanie, na równinie Baktrii, położone około 20 km na NW od stolicy prowincji Mazar-i Szarif oraz ok. 74 km (46 miles) na S od Amu-Darii (starożytnego Oksusu). Zostało założone przed VI w p.n.e., było stolicą Baktrii. Liczba mieszkańców w 2003 roku wynosiła ok. 69 tys. Miejsce narodzin Rumiego.

Balkh (ook bekend als Wazirabad) is een stadje in de provincie Balkh in het noorden van Afghanistan. Het is niet ver van Mazar-e Sharif. Hoewel Balkh nu een klein stadje is, was het in de oudheid veel groter, dankzij haar ligging op de zijderoute. De stad stond in de oudheid bekend als Bactria en het was de hoofdstad van het land Bactrië. De Perzische profeet Zoroaster, de stichter van het zoroastrisme is naar verluidt in de stad gestorven.
