Bahía Kino is a town in the
Mexican state of
Sonora, on the
Gulf of California; it was named after
Eusebio Kino. Also, the name of a bay between
Tiburón Island and Punta San Nicolás,
Sonora.The names Bahía de Kino and Bahía Kino are used interchangeably.Founded in the 1920s as a small fishing camp, Bahía de Kino is a thriving community of about 7,000 inhabitants. Fishing is central to the community’s economic life although only about 25% of the population works directly in fisheries.
Ironwood (Olneya tesota) carving employs about 30% of the working population and 45
re involved in commerce and services provision. Fishing accounts for about 46% of total economic production, with 43 ontributed by general commerce and service provision. Light industry and artisanal activities make up only about 10%.
