Baffin Island

Baffin Island (Inuktitut: ᕿᑭᖅᑖᓗᒃ, Qikiqtaaluk, French: Île de Baffin) is one of the Canadian Arctic islands in the territory of Nunavut. It is the largest island in Canada and is the fifth largest island in the world, with an area of 507,451 km² (195,928 sq mi). It has a population of 11,000 (2004). It is named for British explorer William Baffin. The island was known to the Norse as Helluland.

Ziemia Baffina (ang. Baffin Island; fr. Terre de Baffin) - największa wyspa Archipelagu Arktycznego, druga pod względem wielkości wyspa Arktyki po Grenlandii oraz 5. na świecie. Jej powierzchnia wynosi 507 451 km². W większej części położona jest za kołem podbiegunowym. Populacja wyspy wynosi ok. 11 tys. osób (2004). Jej nazwa pochodzi od nazwiska angielskiego odkrywcy Williama Baffina, który badał wyspę na początku XVII wieku.

L'L' Isola di Baffin (Baffin Island), appartenente al Territorio canadese del Nunavut, è la maggior isola (507.451 km², 11.000 ab.) dell'Arcipelago artico canadese. È separata dalla Groenlandia dalla Baia di Baffin e dallo Stretto di Davis. Montuosa (altezza massima 2.600 m), è in gran parte ricoperta di ghiacci.
