Bactria (from , the Hellenized version of Old Persian Bāxtriš; Elamite ba-ak-ši-iš, Persian and Pashto as باختر Bākhtar or Pākhtar; ; Chinese ) is the ancient name of a historical region located south of the Amu Darya and west of Gandhara. It was a part of the eastern periphery of the Iranian world, now part of Afghanistan. Once Zoroastrian, this region subsequently hosted Buddhism before becoming Muslim after arrival of the Rashiduns and Umayyads in the 7th century. Bactria was also sometimes referred to by the Greeks as Bactriana.

Baktrien (, / Bākhtar, lat. Bactria, chines. 大夏 Da Xia) ist der historische Name einer Landschaft um die ehemalige Hauptstadt Baktra (das heutige Balch), die nördlich des Hindukusch und südlich des Flusses Amu Darja liegt. Das Gebiet, aus dem eventuell der Religionsgründer Zarathustra stammt, gehört heute großteils zum Norden Afghanistans und zum südlichen Turkestan. Die Bewohner Baktriens waren die Baktrer sowie einige Skythen.

La Bactriane ou Bactrie (du grec ancien Βακτριανὴ / Baktrianê) est une région à cheval sur les États actuels d'Afghanistan, d'Ouzbékistan et du Tadjikistan, située entre les montagnes de l'Hindū-Kūsh et la rivière Amou-Daria.

Baktrien (även Baktriana; på arabiska Bhalika; på kinesiska Daxia) är ett historiskt landskap i Centralasien, beläget mellan Hindukush och floden Amu Darja, och vars huvudstad var Baktra (nuvarande Balkh).

Baktria (Baktriana, Bakthar po persku, Bhalika w arabskim i językach indyjskich, Ta-Hsia po chińsku) to starożytna, grecka nazwa krainy położonej obecnie w północnym Afganistanie. Jej stolica to Baktra (Balhika, Bokhdi, współczesny Balch).
