Le Parti Baas (ou Ba'ath ou Ba'as ou Parti Baas arabe socialiste) originel est créé en 1947 à Damas et a pour but l'unification des différents États arabes en une seule et grande nation. Le mot arabe  signifie en français « résurrection » ou « renaissance ».
