BBC World Service

For the BBC television network, see BBC World. The BBC World Service is one of the most widely recognised international broadcasters, transmitting in 33 languages to many parts of the world through multiple technologies. The English language service broadcasts 24 hours a day. In May 2007 the BBC reported that the World Service's average weekly audience had reached 183 million people, beating the previous record of 163 million listeners set the previous year. The World Service is funded by grant-in-aid through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by the British Government  — unlike the  BBC's domestic radio and television services, which are primarily funded by a compulsory licence fee levied on every household in the United Kingdom using a television.

Le BBC World Service (français: Service Mondial de la BBC) est un des diffuseurs de programme radio les plus connus, émettant en 33 langues à travers le monde. Le service anglophone diffuse 24 heures sur 24. En mai 2006 la BBC a affirmé que son service mondial avait une audience hebdomadaire de 163 millions de personnes, battant le record de 2001 situé à 153 millions. Le World service est financé par le gouvernement britannique à travers le Foreign and Commonwealth Office (ministère des Affaires étrangères). Le dirigeant actuel de la BBC World Service est Nigel Chapman.

Der BBC World Service ist einer der angesehensten internationalen Hörfunksender. Seine Programme werden in 33 verschiedenen Sprachen weltweit ausgestrahlt.Im Gegensatz zum normalen Radio- und Fernsehprogramm der BBC für Großbritannien, das hauptsächlich durch Lizenzgebühren finanziert wird, wird der BBC World Service von der britischen Regierung unterhalten. Der Sender bleibt aber politisch unabhängig.

BBC World Service - część BBC, brytyjskiego publicznego nadawcy radiowotelewizyjnego, zajmująca się produkcją wszystkich programów radiowych oraz niektórych telewizyjnych dla zagranicy. Nadaje całodobowy program radiowy w języku angielskim, ponadto przygotowuje programy w różnym wymiarze czasowym - od 24 godzin do kilkunastu minut na dobę - w 32 innych językach. Odpowiada także za internetowe portale informacyjne BBC we wszystkich językach z wyjątkiem angielskiego i innych języków Wysp Brytyjskich (np. walijski), a także za działalność BBC związaną z upowszechnianiem języka angielskiego (przede wszystkim udostępnia w Internecie bezpłatne materiały dla uczniów i nauczycieli). Jest jedyną częścią BBC finansowaną bezpośrednio ze środków brytyjskiego budżetu państwa, a konkretnie resortu spraw zagranicznych. W latach 1939-2005 częścią World Service była sekcja polska BBC.
