BASIC

In computer programming, BASIC (an acronym for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) refers to a family of high-level programming languages. The original BASIC was designed in 1963, by John George Kemeny and Thomas Eugene Kurtz at Dartmouth College, to provide access for non-science students to computers. At the time, nearly all computer use required writing custom software, which was something only scientists and mathematicians tended to do. The language (in one variant or another) became widespread on microcomputers in the late 1970s and home computers in the 1980s, and remains popular to this day in a handful of heavily evolved dialects.

Basic Role-Playing (« jeu de rôle basique » en anglais), ou BRP, est le nom donné au système de jeu de rôle qu'utilise l'éditeur Chaosium pour ses jeux de rôles, en référence au nom du livret qui en définissait les principes, publié pour la première fois en 1980. On parle aussi parfois de système Chaosium, du nom de l'éditeur qui l'a inventé, ou de système d100 par opposition à d'autres systèmes de jeu de rôle, comme les systèmes d6 et d20. Toutefois l'utilisation de dés à 100 faces n'est pas l'exclusivité de Chaosium. Une version générique et simplifiée a été éditée en France dans un numéro hors-série du journal Casus Belli sous le nom (et l'orthographe) BaSIC, le jeu de rôle pour tous.

BASIC ist eine der weitest verbreiteten imperativen Programmiersprachen. Es wurde 1964 von John George Kemeny und Thomas Eugene Kurtz am Dartmouth College entwickelt und verfügte in seiner damaligen Form noch nicht über die Merkmale der strukturierten Programmierung, sondern arbeitete mit Zeilennummern und Sprungbefehlen (GOTO). Mittlerweile gibt es eine Vielzahl verschiedener BASIC-Dialekte, von denen einige der jüngeren alle Elemente höherer Programmiersprachen aufweisen, so etwa Objektorientierung.
