Balsam
Balsam is a term used for various pleasantly scented plant products, and the plants which produce them. Balsams are oily or gummy oleoresins, usually containing benzoic acid or cinnamic acid, obtained from the exudates of various trees and shrubs and used as a base for some botanical medicines. They may be obtained from:
- Balsam fir (Abies balsamea), producing Canada balsam
- Balsam poplars (Populus section Tacamahaca), producing Balm of Gilead
- Commiphora gileadensis, producing Balsam of Mecca
- Myroxylon, producing Tolu balsam and Peru balsam
- Copaifera langsdorfii, producing copaiba balsam

Balsam (Begriffsklärung)
Balsame
Balsame sind pflanzliche Sekrete aus den Interzellulärgängen des Balsambaums und anderer Balsampflanzen. Es sind mehr oder weniger dickflüssige, sirupartige Gemische aus Harzen und ätherischen Ölen. Balsame zeichnen sich durch einen charakteristischen Geruch aus, der durch die Kombination von Benzoesäure- und Zimtsäureestern mit etwas Vanillin entsteht. Typische Balsame sind Perubalsam, Tolubalsam, Kanadabalsam, Benzoe und Myrrhe.

Balsam
Balsam (latin: ba'lsamum, grekiska: ba'lsamon, ursprungligen semitiskt ord) är en typ av liniment. Det förekommer naturligt som en blandning mellan olika ofta välluktande oljor, och utvinns från träd som är hartsrika. Balsam nämns i Bibeln (balsam från Gilead) och det spelade en viktig roll som läkemedel för sårbehandling förr. I vardagligt tal används termen ibland som synonym för "läkedom" eller "tröst".

Balsem
Balsem is een verzamelnaam voor een flink aantal dun- en dikvloeibare plantaardige producten die doorgaans een sterke karakteristieke geur hebben. Alle bevatten zij harsen en oliën, veelal van de balsemboom, die het geheel vloeibaar maken.
De naam komt van balsam, wat welriekend in het Arabisch betekent, en van balsamum, Latijn voor balsamboom.
