Azuay Province

Azuay is a province of Ecuador, created 25 June 1824. It encompasses an area of 7.700 km². Its capital is Cuenca. It is located in the south center of Ecuador in the highlands. Its mountains reach the 4500m above sea level in the national park of El Cajas. Azuay is located on the Panamerican Highway. Cuenca is connected by national flights from Quito and Guayaquil. It sports the largest hydroelectric plant of the country, situated on the river Paute.

Azuay położone jest w środkowo-południowej części państwa, graniczy od północy z prowincjami Guayas i Cañar od wschodu z prowincją Morona-Santiago a od południa z prowincją Zamora-Chinchipe, Loja oraz El Oro.Przez prowincję przechodzi Autostrada Panamerykańska. Znajduję się tu największa hydroelektrownia w całym Ekwadorze, ulokowana na rzece Paute.

Azuay is een provincie van Ecuador sinds 25 juni 1824. Het huidige hoofd van de provincie, de prefect, heet Paúl Carrasco Carpio.De provincie Azuay ligt in de hooglanden in het zuiden van Ecuador. In het nationaal park El Cajas zijn bergtoppen hoger dan 4500 meter te vinden.Azuay ligt aan de Pan-Amerikaanse Snelweg. Cuenca is door nationale vluchten verbonden met Quito en Guayaquil. Zij heeft de grootste waterkrachtcentrale van het land, gelegen aan de rivier Paute.
