The axe or ax is an ancient and ubiquitous tool that has been used for millennia to shape, split and cut wood, harvest timber, as a weapon and a ceremonial or heraldic symbol. The axe has many forms and specialized uses but generally consists of an axe head with a handle, or helve. It is considered a simple machine.

Axé music is a popular music genre originated in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil in the late 1970s, fusing different afro an Brasilian genres, such as Caribe's Marcha, Frevo, Forró and Reggae, with it's fusian genre that is known as Calypso. The broadax, or carpenter's ax, is an ax for hewing timber, made heavier than the chopping ax, and with a broader and thinner blade and a shorter handle.
