Birds (class Aves) are bipedal, warm-blooded, egg-laying vertebrate animals. Birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs during the Jurassic period, c 200 to 150 Ma (million years ago), and the earliest known bird is the Late Jurassic Archaeopteryx, c 155–150 Ma. Around 10,000 living and recently (after 1500) extinct species of birds compose the class Aves, making them the most diverse terrestrial vertebrates. They inhabit ecosystems across the globe, from Arctic terns to Antarctic penguins. Birds range in size from the tiny hummingbirds to the huge Ostrich.

Un oiseau (ou classe des Aves) est un animal tétrapode appartenant à l'embranchement des vertébrés. S'il existe près de espèces d'oiseaux, très différentes tant par leur écologie que par leurs comportements, chacune d'elles présente un même ensemble de caractéristiques évidentes permettant de les regrouper. Celles-ci sont notamment leur bec, leurs plumes, leurs ailes et leur oviparité.

Ptaki (Aves) – gromada stałocieplnych zwierząt z podtypu kręgowców. Gli uccelli (Aves Linnaeus, 1758) sono una classe di vertebrati costituita da circa 10.000 specie viventi. Sono animali bipedi, omeotermi ed ovipari che si trovano in quasi tutti gli ecosistemi, dall'Artide all'Antartide. Le loro dimensioni variano dai 5 cm. del piccolo e leggero colibrì di Elena ai 2,7 m. dello struzzo, un uccello africano inadatto al volo.
