The former Avanti kingdom was one among the many kingdoms ruled by the Yadava kings in the central and western India. Ujjayani (Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh) was its capital along the river Kshipra, a tributary of river Charmanuati, which itself is a tributary of river Ganga. The Ujjayani of the past is currently known as Ujjain a busy city in Madhya Pradesh. Vasudeva Krishna and Bala Rama had their education at Ujjayani, probably the most popular Yadava city and a centre of education.
