Austria-Hungary (also known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austro-Hungarian monarchy or k.u.k. Monarchy), more formally known as the Kingdoms and Lands Represented in the Imperial Council and the Lands of the Holy Hungarian Crown of Saint Stephen, was a constitutional monarchic union between the crowns of the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary in Central Europe. The union was a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, under which the House of Habsburg agreed to share power with the separate Hungarian government, dividing the territory of the former Austrian Empire between them. The Austrian and the Hungarian lands became independent entities enjoying equal status. Austria-Hungary was a multinational realm and one of the world's great powers at the time. The dual monarchy existed for 51 years until it dissolved on 31 October 1918 before a military defeat on the Italian front of the First World War.

Österreich-Ungarn, auch als k. u. k. Doppelmonarchie oder Donaumonarchie bezeichnet, war ein Vielvölkerstaat in Mittel- und Südosteuropa, der nach dem Umbau des Kaisertums Österreich zu einer Doppelmonarchie auf der Grundlage des Österreichisch-Ungarischen Ausgleiches vom 8. Juni 1867 bis zum 31. Oktober 1918 (Austritt Ungarns aus der Realunion) bestand.

L'Autriche-Hongrie est le nom d'un État d'Europe centrale, formée par une double monarchie (Empire d'Autriche, et Royaume de Hongrie) de 1867 à 1918, unis par la famille des Habsbourg et créé par le « compromis austro-hongrois » (en allemand : Ausgleich, en hongrois: Kiegyezés) à la place de l'Empire d'Autriche, pour juguler les vélléités d'indépendance des peuples de cet empire. Le projet politique de cet ensemble consistait en la création d'une hégémonie des populations allemandes d'Autriche et magyares de Hongrie sur une majorité formée de peuples slaves ou latins. Simultanément, ce projet donnait satisfaction à la noblesse hongroise en pérennisant les liens féodaux qui se maintinrent dans ce pays jusqu'à ce que l'ensemble du projet s'écroule suite à la défaite de la Première Guerre mondiale.
