Australian rules football, also known as Australian football, Aussie rules, or simply "football" or "footy" is a code of football played with a prolate spheroid ball, on large oval shaped fields (cricket fields), with four posts at each end. No more than 18 players of each team are permitted to be on the field at any time, with four interchange players on the bench, and the primary aim of the game is to score by kicking the ball between the posts. The winner is the team who has the higher total score by the end of the match.

Australian Football, auch als Australian Rules Football, Aussie Rules oder einfach "Football" oder "Footy" bezeichnet, ist eine Fußballvariante, die mit einem ovalen Ball (Rotationsellipsoid) auf einem großen, ovalen Spielfeld mit vier (Tor-) Pfosten an jedem Ende gespielt wird. Maximal 18 Spieler pro Team sind auf dem Platz erlaubt. Das Ziel des Spiels ist es durch Schüsse zwischen die Pfosten zu punkten. Es gewinnt das Team mit den meisten Punkten am Ende des Spiels.

Futbol australijski – (ang. Australian rules football lub od nazwy największej ligi AFL - Australian Football League), popularnie nazywany footy lub Aussie rules) bardzo popularny w Australii sport drużynowy, grany zazwyczaj na boiskach krykietowych przez dwie 18-osobowe drużyny owalną piłką przypominającą nieco piłkę do rugby. Obok krykieta jest to drugi "sport narodowy" Australii grany we wszystkich stanach tego kraju, a coroczny "AFL Grand Final" (rozgrywany tradycyjnie we wrześniu na stadionie MCG w Melbourne) jest jednym z największych wydarzeń sportowych tego kraju.

Il football australiano (australian football, australian rules, aussie rules, footy, i nomi con cui lo si può trovare indicato) è il gioco nazionale australiano e l'attività atletica di gran lunga più praticata e seguita in Australia. Viene giocato fra due squadre di 18 giocatori (con quattro giocatori di riserva con sostituzioni volanti) sui campi di cricket o altri campi in erba sempre di forma ovale. Questi campi variano nelle dimensioni: possono essere lunghi fino a 185 metri, e larghi fino a 155, dunque rappresentano i campi da gioco più grandi di tutti quelli usati nelle diverse forme di football: quasi quattro volte più grande in superficie del campo di calcio. Il gioco inoltre si caratterizza per il movimento veloce e libero della palla: non c’è regola di fuorigioco.
