Propaganda of the deed (or propaganda by the deed, from the French propagande par le fait) is a concept that refers to specific political actions meant to be exemplary to others. It is associated mainly with violent political actions but it can also have non-violent interpretations.

Ein Attentat (v. spätlateinisch attentatio - „Versuch“) ist eine Gewalttat, die auf die Schädigung oder Tötung einer hochgestellten Person abzielt und ideologisch (religiös, politisch, sittlich) motiviert ist. Gelegentlich wird der Begriff synonym mit dem des Anschlages gebraucht, der aber meist eher Gewalt gegen Sachen meint.

Die Propaganda der Tat (oder Propaganda durch die Tat, aus dem Französischen propagande par le fait) ist ein Konzept, welches durch ihre Rolle in der anarchistischen Bewegung des späten 19. Jahrhunderts bekannt wurde. Aktionen und Taten mit Vorbildscharakter sollten die Gesellschaft „aufwecken“ und in der Bevölkerung Sympathien schaffen, um somit als Mittel für politische und soziale Veränderung zu dienen. Durch die Häufung von anarchistischen Bombenanschlägen und Königsmorden wurde der Begriff Propaganda der Tat in der Öffentlichkeit zunehmend zum Synonym für anarchistische Attentate, und die anarchistische Bewegung wurde oft als gewalttätig und „terroristisch“ bezeichnet.

Un attentat est une action destinée à nuire (à attenter) aux biens ou à la vie d'autrui. On parle généralement d'attentat dans un contexte politique, voire terroriste, mais il peut exister des attentats économiques (visant à évincer un concurrent) .

La « propagande par le fait » est une stratégie d'action politique développée par les anarchistes à la fin du en association à la propagande écrite et verbale. Elle proclame le « fait insurrectionnel » « moyen de propagande le plus efficace » et vise à sortir du « terrain légal » pour passer d'une « période d’affirmation » à une « période d’action », de « révolte permanente », la « seule voie menant à la révolution ».

Attentat (från latinets attentatum, försök till brott) betecknar ett planerat eller genomfört våldsbrott, ofta med politiskt motiv. Det kan handla om mord på en offentlig symbolfigur eller försök till ett sådant mord. Målet för ett attentat kan vara en enskild person, persongrupp eller egendom. Det mera urskillningslösa dödandet av flera personer betecknas till skillnad mot detta som terrorism. Målinriktade attentat kan samtidigt ingå i terroristers verksamhet.
