Atlas V

The Atlas V rocket is an expendable launch vehicle formerly built by Lockheed Martin and now built by the Lockheed Martin-Boeing joint venture United Launch Alliance. Aerojet develops and manufactures the Atlas V boosters. The rocket, built in Decatur, Alabama, consists of a first stage powered by kerosene and liquid oxygen, which uses a Russian made RD-180 engine, and a liquid hydrogen–liquid oxygen powered  Centaur upper stage. Some configurations also use strap-on booster rockets. Together these components are referred to as the Atlas launch vehicle.

Die Atlas V ist eine Weiterentwicklung der Atlas-Centaur-Rakete, welche zwar den Namen geerbt hat, jedoch technisch sehr viele Unterschiede aufweist. Sie wurde zunächst in US-amerikanisch-russischer Kooperation von Lockheed Martin gebaut und von dem Unternehmen ILS international vermarktet. Am 21. August 2002 absolvierte sie von Cape Canaveral aus ihren Jungfernflug, bei dem erfolgreich ein Eutelsat-Fernsehsatellit ins All gebracht wurde. Mit der Beiteiligung von Boeing an Atlas schied ILS aus. Seit 2007 vermarktet das amerikanische Joint Venture United Launch Alliance den Träger.

Atlas V - najmłodsza rakieta nośna z rodziny Atlas. Konstrukcyjnie jest jednak zbliżony do rakiet Titan. Rakiety typu Atlas V i Atlas III wykorzystują silniki rakietowe konstrukcji rosyjskiej, co może zakrawać na ironię, biorąc pod uwagę pierwotne przeznaczenie Atlasów, jakim było przenoszenia głowic jądrowych wymierzonych w ZSRR.

El Atlas V es cohete desechable construido por Lockheed Martin Boeing, es construido en la planta de Decatur en Alabama, su primera etapa es alimentada por una mezcla de keroseno y oxigeno liquido, que usa un motor Ruso RD-180, y otro motor en la etapa superior Centauro. Otros cohetes en diversas configuraciones usan cohetes desprendibles. Ha sido lanzado 11 veces desde agosto 2002 hasta octubre 2007 teniendo un tasa de éxito del 91%. Su única falla hasta el momento ocurrió el 15 de junio de 2007, cuando el motor de la etapa superior Centauro se apago tempranamente, dejando su carga de satélites de vigilancia oceánicos NRO L-30 en una órbita baja. La falla se debió a una anomalía en una válvula, esta causo un retraso en la etapa superior.
